Location
R
ye offers access to all the beauties of the English countryside. Horseback riding offers a magnificent glimpse of a countryside rich in history The castles of Battle, Bodiham and Camber are within easy reach as are the delights of the white sandy beaches at Camber Sands. Hire bicycles for a more relaxed tour of the historic town.

Farthing House is in the historic centre of the town, only steps away from Rye Castle, old canons, the Norman church with a spire worth climbing for the magnificent view.

A town with a rich cultural legacy, Henry James and E.F. Benson lived and wrote here, so it is hardly surprising that there are endless bookshops, galleries, potters and antique shops, but for the practically minded there exquisite bakeries and delis, traditional butchers and health food stores For those who prefer to be pampered, there are dozens tea shops, pubs and fine restaurants.

Rye is an ideal spot for families with children of all ages. Kite surfing, sand castles, swimming and sailing in nearby Camber Sands. Rye is close to Camber Castle, Bodiham Castle, Dungeoness , Battle Abbey and the site of the Battle of Hastings, the spendour of the gardens at Great Ditchley and Sissinghurst, the coastal resorts of Eastbourne, Hastings (with its great pier, pebble beaches, fishermen’s huts and large aquarium), Brighton and Broadstairs, river trips, endless walks, children’s farms, Wildwood (dubbed by the BBC the best British wildlife centre) and numberless attractions.

Quite apart from the best fish and chips in England, Rye is an absolutely ideal centre from which to explore East Sussex and South Kent.
